Nancy has been enjoying entertaining audiences all over Chicagoland for the past 10 years with her sassy Patty Andrews-like vocals (witty persona included) in the popular Legacy Girls Andrews Sisters tribute show. And if you're familiar with Legacy Girls, you'll know that their Nifty 50's & 60's performances also showcased her spot-on ability to nail the singing styles of the likes of Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin and Cher! And as part of Legacy Girls' wonderful Christmas Cheer show, she's also had the pleasure of contributing to countless smiles and warm, fuzzy feelings singing the many meaningful holiday tunes, while never failing to entertain with some flat-out playful renditions of the fun, light-hearted songs of the season.
Nancy began her public singing experience when she soloed for her sister's wedding at the age of 17. In a nutshell, from there came more weddings, a few funerals, some community theatre, a travelling Christian youth group production, some college vocal courses, church choir and a few years with a Christian prison ministry outreach group bringing worship music to the incarcerated. "Nothing prepared me more to step out and have fun and interact with audiences more than singing with the prison ministry those few years. It went beyond just standing and singing. We got to talk with and laugh and interact with people. It was so very different from all the previous singing experiences for sure!"
Her Legacy Girls (originally known as Tres Bella) journey began in 2006; and she's been busy presenting the great music from past decades ever since! Audiences are sure to be entertained, as she continues to offer her quirky charm to so many memorable melodies in her Sweet Reminder performances!
Dia has been lending her vocal and musical skills to Legacy Girls for the past three years performing the smooth lower harmonies of the Laverne Andrews line - And mostly all by ear, as the Andrews Sisters harmony lines were made up by them and not musically written out. Dia has been delivering her strong vocals singing lead in various musical groups long before joining Legacy Girls. She and husband are the founders of Cruise Machine, a retro-style rock and blues band that also offers some unique original tunes as well. She’s also been an integral part of Blue Road, another popular blues band. And you should know that Dia’s not just singing and adding interesting vocal harmonies. She can often be found playing guitar, piano or congas! Dia is also part of the Chicago Women in the Blues, being able to display her musical and vocal skills with style at the Women in the Blues Festival which is featured each year at Reggie’s in Chicago.
Her musical gifts become even more evident when you realize she also currently serves as worship leader with her husband Bob at a Roselle church. So along with learning and performing the many tunes for her involvement in the various music groups she’s a part of, she’s also responsible for heading up the contemporary worship musical environment for service each Sunday.
From starting her musical training way back when she was just a kid learning to play cello, to learning to play guitar and piano, as well as being able to vocally "bring it" in many different musical environments, Dia has proven to be quite the versatile performer. Sweet Reminder is now another way she shares the gift of music… even if it may be delivered somewhat unconventional at times!
Experience a delightful trip down memory lane as LEGACY GIRL singers Nancy Baumet and Dia Madden present their charming renditions of the songs you love by the crooners you remember. Sweet Reminder delivers timeless tunes from the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s with a bold freshness as beautiful vocals and interesting harmonies meet light-hearted fun! Informative and interactive while incorporating props and humor, this show celebrates the classics in a truly unique way!
Sing along and be entertained as songs made famous by Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee, Patti Page and Doris day are brought back to life in true Sweet Reminder style! Old favorites like Fly Me to the Moon, You Belong to Me, and Near You are sure to evoke Sweet Reminders of an earlier time!
